Focus on the Family Spent $100k on Prop 8, Then Laid Off One-Fifth of Its Workers
The Mormon Church was not the biggest backer, nor the worst enemy when it comes to gaining Marriage Equality in general, and Prop 8 in particular. That they spent this money and then laid off staff  is easy to find fault with, but in reality, it makes sense.  For them, this is a critical issue.  Once Marriage Equality passes, their battle to return America to the dark ages is essentially over. so, of course they are going to do everything in their power to stop Marriage Equality. Proponents of Equal Rights for GLBTQ people ned to recognize the severity of this opponent and the fervor with which they will fight equal rights for GLBT people.
