This post on The New Civil Rights Movement blog, sets out expressly to thank Sara Palin and Joe Miller for creating the environment that led to Murkowski’s win. I appreaciate the snear towards Miller and Palin, but I think the real credit goes to Murkowski who did what it took to beat the odds and win as a write-in vote.

Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), the successful and historic write-in candidate who won over the Sarah Palin and Tea Party backed candidate Joe Miller, has just announced she will support repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” which, according to Adam Bink, “puts it beyond a doubt that we have our 60 votes on the policy,” but not on the process.

Murkowski joins Senators Collins and Brown to jump ship from the GOP, but they could pull a procedural fast-one and not vote to allow the vote to repeal “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” to move forward if they don’t like how Majority Leader Harry Reid lines up the process.

But DADT isn’t a done deal any any means, so it is a bit too soon to be thanking anyone for anything. The reality is that there are lots of ways for this to still go down in flames, with the first vote being called for this evening.  Before you decide to take some pleasure in the snear towards Palin, pick up the phone and call your Senator’s office, and demand that they support the repeal of DADT.

Thank You Sarah Palin, Joe Miller! Murkowski Makes 60. | The New Civil Rights Movement.
