Tomorrow evening is the first of a series of community forums, sponsored by Mayor Peduto, one in each police zone, where the community is invited to share their ideas about what they feel is important in a new police chief. I wrote briefly about this last week, but want to again encourage everyone to participate.

Unlike some cities which have a pronounced gayborhood, we have lesbian, gay, bi, trans*, and queer persons living everywhere within the city. I love it when you are with a group of friends and they start claiming that their neighborhood is the “most queer.” We are truly everywhere, at least everywhere in Pittsburgh.

Find the forum which is in your neighborhood or police zone and make sure to attend.  Add your LGBTQ voice to the mix and make sure that your ideas and concerns are raised. We can expect much from our City, but in return the City has expectations of us. We have to be an active part of the whole, and this is an important way to be engaged and involved.

“This is going to be a public outreach directly to the people of Pittsburgh asking them what they want in a police chief,” Mayor Peduto said.
