Toward that end, Joe will be joining Dan here in Pittsburgh for a rally/ meet and greet on Wednesday October 6th, from 5-6:30 PM. More details to follow. Joe has been out on the road with Dan a few times now, and the message is one we can all agree on- that for the state to prosper, individual rights and equality matter for all of Pennsylvanians, including Gay, Lesbian, Bixsesual, and Trans persons.

I have never heard a person speak out for Marriage Equality who didn’t already live in a place with basic protections against discrimination.
They may always be actively working against our rights. But the folks we need to reach, are our co-workers, our neighbors, and those who fall more towards the middle of the scale when it comes to acceptance. These are the folks who can come to understand the importance of LGBT Equality, and become our allies, and open dialogue can help make that happen.
Then Walker handed down his prop 8 ruling, and everything started to shift. Imagine if there were 50 there without much organization, how big of a crowd could have been gathered if there was a major push to create a real counter demonstration?
Countering NOM may make Marriage Equality supporters feel good, and let them blow off a bit of righteous steam, they also totally play into meeting NOM’s needs and help them garner publicity where they might not otherwise get any. Why are we helping them be successful, even if it makes us feel good?
There is only one valid reason for a person to oppose gay marriage. A person can believe that same-sex marriage is wrong based upon their religious views. Their religion can be against it. And there are two valid results based on this valid reason
Being truly equal participants in Life, Liberty and all things American will take more than a right to get married. All of us, need to keep that in mind, and need to keep working for progress on all fronts where LGBT’s are treated differently than others.
For me, this issue is far bigger than Minnesota politics. This “socialism” verbiage is common GOP-talk at every level of government. And, here in Pennsylvania, we have a GOP governor candidate who thinks everyone on unemployment wants to sit around and just pick up a check. He claims to find tons of open jobs in a newspaper classified, but fails to see that these pay too low of a wage for the average unemployed to live at the standard their previous job provided. So Thomas Emmer is blaming the waters and waitresses, and Tom Corbett is blaming the unemployed.
What’s happening in Lancaster County should be a wake up to anyone living in any location where LGBT rights are protected under a HRC. The LCHRC has existed for many years, but recently there was a petition to add Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity and Expression to their protected classes, and two of the commissioners responded with a proposal to eliminate the LCHRC all together.
