Being truly equal participants in Life, Liberty and all things American will take more than a right to get married. All of us, need to keep that in mind, and need to keep working for progress on all fronts where LGBT’s are treated differently than others.
Updated: it is official! Prop 8 eked unconstitutional! A number of tweets on twitter claiming prop 8 has been overturned, but I can’t yet confirm via a news source. Here are excerpts from the ruling as reported by the LA Times Here is the PDF of the Judge’s ruling
We know that the ruling will be appealed no matter what then decision is, and Walker, almost painfully, laid out a meticulous case so that there was no stone unturned and the court record would be as detailed as could be as the case moves through the appeals process towards the Supreme Court. But what about the time between now and the appeal?
Corbett has already made clear that once elected he will push for a constitutional amendment in the PA constitution that will make marriage as being only between one man and one woman, and the general consensus is that if he wins, the Republicans will also win the House, and he will have little trouble getting the constitutional amendment through both the Senate and House quickly, setting the stage for a battle at the ballot box in 2 years.
I’ve linked to Micek’s column before and I generally love to read him, but the linked entry has me fairly pissed off. Why is it that “marriage” can be used to talk about a relationship between two guys, but if two guys who are really gay, love each other and want to make a commitment to each other, they can’t.
Why is the the sanctity of dogma more important that equal rights?
I think this could be a turning point in the marriage equality battle. If she vetoes it, then it is clear, that it isn’t really “marriage” opponents are trying to protect. Their efforts are a blatant attack on the rights of gay and lesbian individuals to form meaningful and protected relationships.

agner points out (to the far right readers of the questionnaire) that he voted for the states DOMA. It is like he is saying, “I might be a democrat, but I’ve been on your side against gay marriage.” Wagner is not the only democrat who is not fully supportive of same-sex marriage, but he is the only one who wanted to highlight his connection to the far right so vividly.
Scalia suggests to do otherwise, the court would be creating “new rights,” something that gets associated with activist judges. Here, the activist judges appear to be the far right conservatives, Alito and Roberts.
