I saved this link last month, and it got lost in my “blog ideas” file until today. In fact as I was writing recently about the issue of use of the term homosexual, it reminded me about it. Too often, our opposition creates (and we allow), there to be a false assumption that there is one sexual orientation heterosexuality, and it is normal, and if there is such a thing- homosexuality, which is abnormal. When in fact, sexuality is far more fluid than that, and the “extremes” of exclusively hetero or exclusively homo are just two spots along a bell curve with many points in between that are best described as bisexual.
Manning says that he still gets aroused by women… something that simply wouldn’t happen if he were gay.

So, rather than let this sit, in my “drafts” folder any longer, here it is.
I’ve written very little about bisexuality, where as I have written a lot about the “T” in LGBT- transgender. I don’t personally think we will stop grouping bisexual  into the whole LGBT community, however the change in the movement since the last ’60s suggests that things are different now. Early on, the movement was about “sexual liberation” and a breaking free from the sex stereotypes and strict gender roles. Over time, however, this call for liberation, has shifted to a cry for Equality. Some might even argue that, our “movement” has taken a step towards the status quo with the excessive push for the right to marry.
As we continue to move forward towards Equality, Liberation or whatever we label our end goal, it will be in our best interest to continue to explore and understand the full spectrum of individuals who make up the coalition of communities, we are referring to when we say LGBT, or GLBTQ.
