The two gay bashings in Pittsburgh this summer, both happened within Zone 5- one in Bloomfield, and one on Highland Park. I attended the last meeting of the Citizen’s Council to talk about this issue, and the Council was very open to the discussion. This was just one of a number of meetings and things that have happened to help make Pittsburgh a safer city for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender residents.
The next meeting is Tuesday, October 12, 2010, 7PM, at the Union Project in Highland Park. I will be away for work and unable to attend, but anyone who lives in Zone 5 can attend. I hope others will make room in their schedule for this meeting. As well as having the opportunity to meet the Commander, Tim O’Connor, there will be a presentation on gangs that should be of interest. The Union Project is located at the corner of Stanton Ave and Negley Ave.
