Received this information in an email today from Ted Hoover of the Persad, Community Safe Zone Project:

I’m excited to tell you about two new organizations coming together in Westmoreland County which promise to have a great positive impact on the LGBTQ-and Allies community.

Concerned folks from around the county, along  Persad Center’s Community Safe Zone project and many other organizations, have spent the last several months accessing the needs of the Westmoreland LGBTQ community — two separate groups were formed and both are now presenting their first public events.

For the first time, PFLAG (Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) will have a presence in Westmoreland County with the establishment of PFLAG Greensburg.  This is the local chapter of the national PFLAG which, for over 40 years, has worked on Support, Education and Advocacy for the LGBT community.  PFLAG Greensburg is having an inaugural meeting, a chance to help shape the chapter from the beginning, talk about the group’s goals and spend an afternoon in a safe, supportive atmosphere with family and friends.

Community Safe Zone is also very proud to have been helping with the creation of the Westmoreland LGBTQ Interfaith Network; a collaborative of LGBTQ-affirming clergy, congregations and laity in Westmoreland County.

In the words of the Network: “We reject the deep wounds and isolation some religious traditions offer the LGBTQ community and promote acceptance and healing in our religious institutions, our community and our world. We offer a message of affirmation and love for the many gifts the LGBT can share.”

The Network is presenting it’s first interdenominational Worship Service with an offering of sacred music, words and dance.
