In an ABC News interview, John Boehner agreed that the massive, billions-of-dollars worth of subsidies and special tax perks given to the oil companies may need trimming. “It’s certainly something we should be looking at. We’re in a time when the federal government’s short on revenues. They ought to be paying their fair share.”
Excu-u-u-u-se me? “Short on revenues”? This from the man who keeps saying that the government doesn’t have a revenue problem, it has a spending problem?
“Something we should be looking at,” doesn’t really mean much. It isn’t the same thing as “something we should be doing.” This will work for Boehner’s advantage. He will look “open” to these ideas, but they will never happen.
