Many [conservatives] don’t really care if gay, lesbian, bisexual, or trans persons exist, as long as they are hidden away and no one has to know they exist. It isn’t our existence that causes the uproar against the queers, it is our visibility and our desire for equality. If we were happy being people who live in fear and hiding our true selves, there would be no problem.
