Received this from Keystone Progress:
Remember last year when Target Corporation used its profits to support a political candidate who did not support basic human rights? The backlash was swift, as shoppers boycotted to tell Target they didn’t like the company spending its profits on politics that were not in line with its corporate values.
Target responded to the uproar by implementing superficial changes to its political giving policy. But today it STILL continues its political spending. The fact is that Target – and every other corporation in America – can continue to reach deep into its profits and spend without limit to influence our elections, thanks to the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision. The result is distorted public policies that benefit a select few, not all of us.
It’s time to remind Target and other corporations gearing up for the 2012 elections that only corporations that stick to business should get our business. Our democracy is not for sale to the highest bidder, and that when a few executives at the top of corporation use company profits for political work, we will blow the whistle.
Please sign our petition urging Target executives to refrain from political spending.
Our democracy is of, for and by the people, not the corporations.
