In August, Horne filed a lawsuit with the U.S. Supreme Court, demanding that Arizona be allowed to repeal domestic partners insurance for state employees. In his suit, Horne claimed that rescinding benefits for gay employees would be good for Arizona tourism because doing so “furthers the State’s interest in promoting marriage.” I have written (and been attacked) for saying that those who are opposed to Marriage Equality have a right to their opinions. One reason some people don’t vote is because they don’t want to vote for the loser. So, if they are afraid that their candidate might lose, they don’t vote. If you care about LGBTQ Rights and other Progressive issues, this year you can not allow that mentality to stop you! Your vote, especially in these few states will make the difference, and you my PA and OH readers especially, that means that the election s up to you and those you know.
Either way you look at it however is scary for a secularist. Either Jesus wins, and America has it’s own taliban of the Christianist type. Or Romney wins and a cult gains control of our whole country. America becomes like the Vatican city state, except that the Church of the LatterDay Saints has a much bigger coverage.

There has been so much talk about the GOP War on Women but it has mostly revolved around Abortion Rights. But there are other aspects to it too. Ann Romney painted herself as a strong woman whose role is to be a supportive wife. Michelle as well as Jill Biden projected a very different persona.
These are the methods of organizing people within which they believe they have power. Therefore, their every effort is devoted to protecting these two structures. This is why a fight for LGBT Rights is a moral fight for them, and winning over LGBT Rights is more important than anything else. It is bigger than abortion; bigger than women’s rights; bigger than anything, because no issue touches the family and the church as much as the acceptance of gay people-at least from their perspective.
Saw this on Truth Wins Out, and thought it was very worth sharing: Think about where Romney and the GOP’s stance on basic rights and freedoms differ from Obama, and then you can see that we must re-elect the President to see our progress continue.
I love her post because it reframes the issue of how to vote. She asks her readers to consider how they want to be treated. That Golden Rule so many of us learned in Sunday School, and a way of being that is so absent from much of the religious rhetoric of today. She also connects the two sides of Marriage together in a wonderful way.
I’ve received a ton of emails as well as Facebook invites about a debate watch party tonight at Cruze Bar. The party seems to be hosted by a number of persons and organizations, which provide fodder for some commentary. But right now, I want to focus on why it is useful for YOU to go. (and I believe it is)
In the mean time, there is plenty of work that needs to be done. One of the reasons this seems so controversial is that most people don’t understand transgender or the issues trans persons face on a daily basis.
