This is from a press release from Equality PA:
Statement on Representative Mike Fleck
Harrisburg – Today, Rep. Mike Fleck (R-81st District) faced the world as an openly gay man. He took the first step in the journey of living an authentic life. As Pennsylvania’s statewide lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) political advocacy organization, we salute his honesty and integrity in making this important move. We know this to be a deeply personal moment for any gay person, and we first off want to recognize his absolute need to work through this transition with his family, close associates and friends. We also want to recognize his now unique role as an openly gay legislator. While we have no interest in delving into the personal lives of the members of Pennsylvania’s General Assembly, we do have an interest in their records. Rep. Fleck has a very scant record of support for issues surrounding LGBT equality. We certainly hope that in the coming days we can work with him to change that fact, and that he can help us move forward a state that does very little to protect or support lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Pennsylvanians, just like him. On issues of LGBT equality, there is plenty of work to do and we will welcome Rep. Fleck in helping us make progress. Today’s developments are a welcome moment. We will support Rep. Fleck as he moves through his personal journey and reach out to him too when it comes time to find positive solutions to improve the lives of the thousands of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Pennsylvanians he both represents and serves in the General Assembly.
