Professor George Rekers used the Rentboy website to hire a prostitute to accompany him on a recent trip.

Rekers, is of course denying this accusation. There is no doubt that the guy he hired is a male escort who commonly has sex for money, but Rekers is suggesting that he found this guy by interviewing  acquaintances. He must have some pretty interesting acquaintances!

Many religious people cite the Bible as their reason to oppose gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender rights. RThey have become as a general group, more vocal about this as LGBT rights have become more of a pressing issue for many. But in general, they would happily go about their own lives no caring about gay people. Some, on the other hand, make it their mission to demonize and oppress gay people. These individuals, like Rekers, are acting out of a self hatred- a desire to not be gay themselves. So, they act out in inappropriate ways, or make up shady stories to conceal what they are doing, all the while ramping up their attack on genuine and honest women and men who just want to be accepted as  what they are- gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender.

The Hustler kid has been located, but so far isn’t saying much. I feel bad for him. He ends up looking bad either way, when the real slimeball is Rekers.

It is possible (although not probable) that no sexual activity occurred between these two male adults. Lucien (the escort) may have thought it was a great way to travel and not have to “work” like he usually does. Maybe even Rekers thought he could “convert” the kid (who is very sexy). Either way, it was exploitative, manipulative, and the kid is being taken advantage of in a way.

But really, if all he needed was someone to carry luggage, do you really think that a sexual escort is the most likely candidate?

The solution is simple. Homophobes: stopping getting your panties in a knot because self-accepting gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people want to be treated as equal participants in society, and have full equal rights. There are plenty of social or moral issues you can concern yourself with, and you won’t need to hire any male prostitutes for that.

If you really want to value the institution of marriage, focus on ending domestic violence, rape by husbands and family members, and infidelity.

And if you really can’t come to terms with your own sexual orientation (Rekers and others) that’s is fine, oppress yourself instead of trying to keep all of us oppressed. There is a slogan you hear in 12 step groups- “you are only as sick as your secrets.” Come out and quit living a double life of lies. Your secrets are killing us, as well as you.
