One of my blog readers sent this to me, and wanted to post it. The link at the bottom is to the health conference website for more information.
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
The attached is a letter requesting that employers who are Transgender
friendly attend the Trans Health Conference Career Day on June 3, 2010
at the Convention Center, to talk with, interview and take applications
from Transgender persons for potential employment positions. Â I am
forwarding this to you in the hope that you will consider having a table
representing your organization. If you are not the hiring person in your
organization, please forward it to that individual. Â In addition, please
forward this email to any organization or business you think may be
willing to participate in the career fair. Â If you have contacts at any
of the region’s larger employers such as Comcast, the University of
Pennsylvania, Jefferson Health System or Merck, it would be very helpful
if you can forward this invitation to them. Â Employment can be one of
the most difficult challenges for Transgender individuals due to lack of
sensitivity and/or prejudice, so it’s particularly important that
employers who are Trans friendly are present at the career fair. Â Even
if an organization does not have current job openings, being present at
the career fair to talk with individuals about potential future
openings, to collect resumes, and provide advice to job seekers would be
a valuable contribution. Â In addition, there are workshops on Thursday
morning to help employers learn how to become more transgender friendly.
The email below has details on how to register for the career day and
contact information if you need further information.
I also want to encourage everyone to attend the Trans Health Conference
on June 3-5 at the Convention Center. Â It is free, open to everyone,
and provides a wide range of educational workshops. Â The workshops are
geared for transgender people, their families, friends, significant
others, allies, and those of us that provide services and support to the
transgender and gender-variant community. Â The website for the Trans
Health Conference is: http://www.trans-health.org/
Thank you for your help.
