I’m not really into the “signing” shows like The Voice or American Idol, but this clip is worth posting for an entirely different reason. Tyler Robinson, a gay, mormon, comes out to everyone, including his father on national television. You could say that was a crazy move, or you could call it grandstanding, but I think what it really does is demonstrate how important it was to him (and how important it is to all of us) to be genuine and open about who we are.  Tyler could easily have decided to put all the focus onto his song and being appreciated for his talent. But he chose to use this opportunity to reveal the whole of himself- what he called, just a part of him. That takers courage.

Gay, lesbian, and bisexuals would face far less discrimination if everyone just came out and was honest about why they are. When we lead a closeted life, we enable the haters who spread lies and misinformation about us.

I also appreciated that Tyler named himself as a mormon. The truth s, we are everywhere. In all Faith backgrounds and still a part of many Faith communities.
