As if the GOP Party Platform wasn’t enough, some LGBT persons feel they can still support the GOP’s presidential candidate and his running mate. They claim that the two men are really separated from a party “document” which isn’t all that important. But the reality is that neither Romney or Ryan can be seen as very pro-LGBT.
What I find so alarming is that we have tried for a long long time to pass ENDA. WE have tried every possible thing, including compromise, and the time for that is gone. We can no longer, as a community throw a part of us under the bus in an attempt to get some rights. It was never the right thing to do, and it isn’t the right thing now to raise to the highest offices men who would do that- who wouldn’t accept fairness witghout it.
The Republican VP nominee voted for the Employment Non-Discrimination Act in 2007 but said he couldn’t support the legislation if it included protections for transgender Americans.
This ease with which some isolate the T from LGB is offensive and unacceptable. And the President haas a power far greater than merely signing a bill. He will likely post new appointees to the Supreme Court. We must not allow this mentaility of splitting off the Trans community to become acceptable at the SCOTUS.
