The GOP’s Tea Party Problem

The GOP’s Tea Party Problem

“Well, listen, I think this has been the most misreported story of my two years’ tenure.  We don’t have a tea party caucus to speak of in the House.”- Speaker John Boehner, ABC news, November 8, 2012 This quote was highlighted in the Tea Party Patriots newsletter, and brought a smile to my face. While you were breaking your back on this election, often with no sleep, to help save this country – the GOP[Read More…]

What is the highest priority LGBTQ issue? Are our organizations on board?

What is the highest priority LGBTQ issue? Are our organizations on board?

So, what is the highest priority LGBTQ issue, and how do we advocate for it moving forward? Is there such a thing as an individual issue that we can name as more or less priority as any other? The conventional wisdom is to focus attention, awareness and resources on one item and assure success there, keeping in mind the context which includes the legislative climate and the probability of action. But, what if there is no one issue that is meaningful overall, and to all? Is it possible that our collective and diverse communities have a variety of iunique and specific needs that may or may not align one with the others? Do we harm our overall efforts by trying to prioritize one issue over another?

Election 2012 Thoughts

Election 2012 Thoughts

The take-home message must be that a future of Equality won’t come because of how we rally and demand for our President to act. It won’t be created by those who feel they are keeping The President’s feet to the fire to push change. It will only come about with throngs of people of every age bracket, color, race, and every other descriptor doing the ground work and creating cultural change across the country. We must too, work to hold our elected officials accountable, but the real work if the ground work: each and every one of us must be an active participant instead of a passive observer.

Kluwe’s Mistake

Kluwe’s Mistake

One of our greatest weapons in out struggle is free speech, and the ability for LGBTQ and supportive allies to express their ideas, and perspectives. The down-side of the free speech idea however, is that it allows our opponents to do the same. So often, their rhetoric is full of misinformation at best, and outright lies at the worst. We succeed however, not in taking away or stopping their right to free speech, but rather by countering theirs, and hateful misinformation with truth, reason and language that encourages fairness by promoting valid discourse over fear mongering. To lose his voice from that dialogue is a shame.

Mitt Romney and the American Theocracy.

Mitt Romney and the American Theocracy.

Service to others is an important concept that is forgotton by too many people today, in our “me-centric” society, yet serving in the military is much much more than simply serving others. Serving in the military is about defending the very essence of our rights as citizens and protecting our democracy. Our service members are willing to die for our country. What similar statement can be made about Mormon missionaries? What are they willing to die to protect? Anything?

So, Ann Romney compares Mormon proselytizing to sacrificing to protect our liberty? Really? An act of inducing someone to convert is the same as risking your life to protect the foundation of our country? Only if our country is a Mormon or Christian theocracy.

Arizona Attorney General Tom “Sanctity Of Marriage” Horne Exposed As Adulterer

Arizona Attorney General Tom “Sanctity Of Marriage” Horne Exposed As Adulterer

In August, Horne filed a lawsuit with the U.S. Supreme Court, demanding that Arizona be allowed to repeal domestic partners insurance for state employees. In his suit, Horne claimed that rescinding benefits for gay employees would be good for Arizona tourism because doing so “furthers the State’s interest in promoting marriage.” I have written (and been attacked) for saying that those who are opposed to Marriage Equality have a right to their opinions. I[Read More…]

Even a few votes will make a difference.

One reason some people don’t vote is because they don’t want to vote for the loser. So, if they are afraid that their candidate might lose, they don’t vote. If you care about LGBTQ Rights and other Progressive issues, this year you can not allow that mentality to stop you! Your vote, especially in these few states will make the difference, and you my PA and OH readers especially, that means that the election s up to you and those you know.

Jesus for President!

Jesus for President!

Either way you look at it however is scary for a secularist. Either Jesus wins, and America has it’s own taliban of the Christianist type. Or Romney wins and a cult gains control of our whole country. America becomes like the Vatican city state, except that the Church of the LatterDay Saints has a much bigger coverage.
