I’ve linked to Micek’s column before and I generally love to read him, but the linked entry has me fairly pissed off. Why is it that “marriage” can be used to talk about a relationship between two guys, but if two guys who are really gay, love each other and want to make a commitment to each other, they can’t.

Not only are players coming out, but teams, and the structure of professional sports is making progress at demonstrating a lack of tolerance for intolerance, like with this story. Sports won’t become fully safe for LGBT athletes anytime soon, but these are all steps forward.

It may seem tempting to sit back, and as one long time Democrat put it to me, watch the GOP implode, but I’m not so sure that 1) that is what is going to happen, or 2) even with implosion, it won’t spell hardship for LGBT issues.

Campaign sites are designed with an intended audience and purpose. They are not a bad source of information, but may not display the whole picture. Still, many bloggers do not do even half this level of research, so Gaudini is really to be applauded.
Elected officials don’t really respond well to being called names or told that something is the right way or the wrong way. But, when you tell your own story- when you talk about how something will impact you or your loved ones, you make a difference.
Most Americans are ready for DADT to be repealed, but most also assume that a repeal of DADT would mean that openly gay or lesbian troops will be allowed to serve. Guess what? The current compromise bill doesn’t accomplish that at all! All the compromise does is repeal DADT, and return the military to the pre-DADT conditions where gays and lesbians were not permitted to serve.
Polls are important for a number of reasons, but when we start to act based only on the polls, we fail Democracy/democratic system. Now that the primary is over, it is time to stop exclusively following poll results and begin to look at the actual candidates hoping to be the next Pennsylvania governor.
