ReelQ Pick of the Day: Men’s Shorts

ReelQ Pick of the Day: Men’s Shorts

Today’s ReelQ pick of the day is the series of films called “Men’s Shorts” screening this evening at the Harris Theater as part of the Pittsburgh LGBT Film Festival. I’m going to say something odd, and I said this yesterday (when the screening is for Women’s Shorts)- here goes: If you identify as male or a man, then go see the Women’s Shorts, and if you identify as female or a woman, then go see the Male Shorts. The[Read More…]

ReelQ Pick of the Day: Women’s Shorts

Because the more we care to understand about people different than us in a sex or gender way, the better off we will be and the greater our opportunity to really see and hear each other. And a far too large part of the obstacles standing in the way of kurt community stems from an inability or an unwillingness to see and hear each other.

Pittsburgh rallies against anti-LGBTQ violence.

Across the rainbow coalition of Pittsburgh’s LGBTQ community, action has begun in response to last week’s gay bashing in the Lawrenceville neighborhood of Pittsburgh with various organizations and individuals stepping forward and being proactive in a number of ways.

ReelQ Pick of the Day: Snails In The Rain

Today, there are two film screenings, and both look interesting to me, but since I’m doing a “pick of the day” I’m going to pick the US premier film called “Snails in the Rain.” The preview for this film is very interesting, and I have no clue what the name means, but if the film is as good as the preview suggests it may be, it is a must-see film. Over the years, some of[Read More…]

ReelQ Pick of the Day: I am Divine!

ReelQ Pick of the Day: I am Divine!

Divine was a true superstar performer, even if she never had the type of name or brand recognition of a Madonna or a Cher. So my ReelQ pick for today is the film, “I am Divine” screening this evening at the Pittsburgh LGBT Film Festival.

Don’t Come Out: Come Out For!

Don’t Come Out: Come Out For!

I want to suggest that there is something more important than coming out. Or rather, after you are out, then what can you do? Don’t simply come out! Rather Come out for Equality, Fairness and Freedom. Come out for celebrating and respecting diversity!

ReelQ: How about a date night to the movies?

ReelQ: How about a date night to the movies?

Fall means it is time for the Pittsburgh Lesbian and Gay Film Festival. You have few opportunities to be exposed to this many varied and interesting films. Why not get a pass and make it to as many of the screenings as possible? You will see me there! Those re-runs of Will and Grace on Logo? DVR them for a cold winder’s night. Come OUT and see some great films!

Correction: Gay Bashings in Pittsburgh: One Arrested

We belong in our neighborhoods as much as anyone else. We must not be afraid to enjoy ourselves and live our lives, yet we must remember not to be complacent or blind to potential threats around us. We need to utilize the resources that exist designed to protect everyone, like the police, and if we find we don’t receive adequate or a professional level of support from public safety officials we must make that known as well.

Thoughts on Podcamp 8

As I usually do, here is a post summarizing my thoughts about yesterday’s Pittsburgh Podcamp 8 (pcpgh8). I’ll comment on the sessions I attended, as well as Podcamp overall. I’ve attended every Podcamp since 2008 except last year, when I was sick and chose to stay home, and like every Podcamp, I left having learned much. These types of gatherings are so useful and crucial to support a thriving Social Media community like we have here[Read More…]

A Gay Man Sees Our Town

A Gay Man Sees Our Town

My all-time favorite moment of the show is in the second act where, George announces that he is making up his mind, right then and there to not go away to agricultural college. But this is a show where the dialogue and the story telling are meant to take center stage, so there are many wonderful moments.
