Real Equality will come about through cultural change, attitudinal shifts, as well as by the passage of laws, policies and maintaining our efforts to be a more perfect nation. I encourage readers of my blog to post their comments and ideas as well.
The general prevailing media message is too often, the person who shouts the loudest or spends the most- wins, and it is time to attack that mindset head on. Real ideas, and reasoned dialogue will go further to solve real problems.
The show provides an inviting glimpse into not only the life of this one man, but into the history of our country and all of Americans as a people and as a country. I urge everyone to see this wonderful play. Sit there, in the audience and feel Thurgood addressing you directly, and allow that interaction to prompt you to consider history, the present and the future.

The chart here is from Voices of Central PA and the chart is realy striking! I don’t post this to merely dismiss the religious who call for “family values” but rather to point out that the fight has to be about real issues, and not just empty rhetoric.
Let me be clear again. I can even live with a long winded Council person. (Though I’d encourage even them to learn to be more succinct) What gets me outraged, are those who say they want to listen and then kept yammering on. That is disrespectful.
Watching this race and considering the candidates is important. Those of us who call Pittsburgh Home, and want it to grow and thrive must recognize how the selection of the next Mayor is critical. Let’s all do our homework, and be smart voters at the Primary.
The best defense against these extremist zealots, is to continue to broaden cultural support for acceptance of all LGBT persons. The more acceptance and respect are the cultural norm, then the more the extremists are at the fringe and less comfortable acting out in illegal and dangerous ways.
But the Religious Fundamentalists are not a joke, and the LGBTQ community needs to consider seriously what their opposition may mean for us. It should not slow us down as we seek full equality, but we recognize the lengths they will go to to stop us from having fairness and equality.
