Will Brian Sims help or hinder LGBT progress in Pennsylvania?

The thing that is keeping any LGBT legislation from moving out of committee is Darryl Metcalf. He now heads an important committee, and he will continue to do so until he loses his re-election, or Democrats take control of the House again. Electing Brian Sims won’t impact either of these in any way. This is nothing against Brian who is a smart, articulate, and handsome guy. Just the reality of the real issues that are stopping LGBT legislation.

Those who oppose marriage equality are few, but wealthy.

This is not reason to celebrate, but rather it is reason to not give up the passion with which we fight for marriage equality. We still have a long way to go, but our battle is really against a small group of very loud, very rich supporters who have no problem sinning (bearing false witness is a sin) when it works to their advantage to do what they claim is “the Lord’s work.”

Drawing the line between same-sex marriage and the other LGBTQ rights issues.

Drawing the line between same-sex marriage and the other LGBTQ rights issues.

The linked article below is all about a flyer from 2002 Pride that now, the Romney camp is disavowing, but the reality is that Romney’s support for LGBTQ is not that clear. Perhaps like many politicians, he was just out for the votes and trying to portray himself as supportive. In the worst case scenario though this current disavowing is just the failure of a man to show integrity s he fears that many Republican[Read More…]

Do you ask your family to assist in LGBTQ advocacy?

Today, I received an email from change.org asking for money, but it mentioned a former marine who is straight, but speaking out against the repeal of the New Hampshire same-sex marriage rights. The quote and link is to a post last year about him: Craig Stowell says his 22-year-old brother Calvin is gay, and after he heard about two hearings to repeal gay marriage in New Hampshire on Thursday, he had to speak out. Not[Read More…]

RuPaul, Ron Paul, and political by couture.

Saw a post about this over on Americablog, but the quote below comes from the source at Politico.com. In the quote, the emphasis is mine: RuPaul described himself in a press release as “not a political person by nature,” but added, “any time a man leaves the house in a wig and a pair of cha cha heels, he’s making a political statement.  Let us not forget that this great nation was founded by a[Read More…]

Occupy is today’s way for being engaged in the process!

Occupy is today’s way for being engaged in the process!

In the LGBT movement, the parallel for Occupy is coming out and being visible. Being a part of the dialogue rather than living a double standard or a lie. That isn’t too hard to compehend, is it?

cis

I am working on a blog post/response to a post on Americablog. Before posting it, I wanted to post some basic info about “cis.” If any reader has more or different information or links they feel is useful to help everyone better understand cis, please post  as a comment.  Thanks!
