Pittsburgh, PA- May 16, 2012- The City of Pittsburgh’s Mayor’s LGBT Advisory council will be hosting it’s first annual diversity job fair on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at PNC Bank’s Firstside Center located at 500 Firstside Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15219. The job fair is intended to offer potential candidates a forum to meet with representatives from various corporations throughout the city of Pittsburgh to discuss employment opportunities. The participating corporations all share a similar approach to employment hiring practices that offers an open and accepting work environment for individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Even though the Mayor’s LGBT advisory council works to advocate for equality of all persons with regard to sexual orientation and gender identity, the diversity job fair being held on May 23rd will be open to anyone regardless of their race, color, religion, gender, gender identity, age, ancestry, sexual orientation, national origin, place of birth, citizenship or non-job related disability.

Corporations participating in the job fair will be UPMC, Highmark, GAP, Alcoa, Giant Eagle, Goodwill and PNC Bank. The job fair is being held from 9:00am to 3:00pm. Candidates are asked to arrive on the hour in order to gain access to the building and will need a valid ID upon entry. The Mayor’s LGBT Advisory Council was formed in September 2009 under the auspices of Mayor Luke Ravenstahl to address the needs of the LGBT Community. The nine member Council meets monthly and has quarterly meetings with the Mayor as a means to advise him of the needs of the LGBT community.
