Today, I found two stories in my news feeds that are both short history lessons: the type of stuff every LGBTQ person ought to know, so please, enter the classroom, and get ready for some LGBT History 101.

The first is a post about out persons and Sports by David Mixner. Truly, what Jason Collins did this week was huge, and it is also crucial to remember all of the things that have already happened in the world of Sports that helped set the stage for Collin’s coming out.  So here is your Sports history lesson. After reading the linked blog post, see how many other athletes you can name- their name and their sport.

The second is a history in Marriage Equality, covering the last 20 years. As we prepare for Rhode Island to become the 10th and Delaware to become the 11th state that provide full marriage equality, it helps to recognize this hasn’t come overnight, and yet, it has been fairly quickly in the bigger scheme of things. Your post lesson quiz question: Essay: Name the three most important events of the past 20 years for marriage equality, and explain why you selected these items.
