February is Black History Month, and too often people of color are not adequately given visibility or inclusion within the LGBTQ community, during this month or any month for that matter. Over the month, I’ll try and do my part to rectify that and begin posting more stories and links to things geared to give visibility to persons of color in LGBTQ history as well as today in contemporary culture.

Today, I want to kick this off a link to the GLAAD Black History resource kit. The kit includes resources and suggestions for developing LGBTQ inclusive content for use during this or any month.

Too often when we talk about a Gay and Lesbian Community, or even the more inclusive idea of a LGBTQ Community, we neglect to retain a focus on the ways this  perspective can ignore or gloss over the intersectionality of other identities. We can  participate in the marginalizing persons of color, even if we aren’t aware of doing it.

During Black History Month, ask yourself– what will you do today to create visibility and awareness for LGBTQ persons of color and help generate an environment of inclusion for everyone?
