As everyone gets into Pride festivities across the US, we have this troubling report out of Illinois:
A small bomb exploded in the women’s bathroom at a Target store in Evanston on Wednesday, and officials are investigating whether it’s connected to the company’s policy allowing transgender people to use the bathroom of their choice.
Desperate radicals who have no legal avenue to stop human rights often resort to drastic efforts like using bombs. Consider how anti-abortion radicals have resorted to murdering doctors who are simply doing what is legal. In the case of transgender protections offered by businesses, there are no individuals like doctors to target (pun?). These fringe individuals first called for a boycott which is having no impact upon the Target business. You can find videos on Youtube of crazy Christians trying to disrupt stores. Are they now moving on to more dangerous tactics?
I want to be clear– we do not know that this bomb episode has anything to do with Target’s decision to all all employees and visitors to use the restroom that aligns to their gender expression. But it may, and if it does, it will be essential that the LGBTQIA+ community be ready to stand strong with out trans members and everyone willing to do what is right to protect them.
