This is the first of a multi-part series about the connection of Religion and Bigotry. I want to focus on two other aspects of this intersection of Faith and bigotry, and how the two feed each other.
It was announced recently, that filming of Duck Dynasty with all cast members will resume in 2014 effectively ending the suspension of family patriarch Phil Robertson, but what wasn’t announced is A&E’s plans to rebrand itself to coincide with the show based on the lessons learned during the manufactured controversy.
The US Supreme Court has ruled 14 times since 1888 about the fundamental right to marriage, yet groups like the National Organization for Marriage claim that one Obama appointed judge is acting in an activist way. Silly, inaccurate and hateful!
Judicial rulings in New Mexico, Utah, and Ohio may pave the way to strike down the Pennsylvania law which bans same-sex marriage.
Max Gordon offers an interesting take on the subject. As a black, gay man, his perspective Robertson is worth reading, although it think he has a bunch of it wrong. The audacity of Christians to believe they are above the law speaks volumes and demonstrates the real meaning of privilege. For me, Religion itself isn’t the enemy, but some clueless practitioners who honestly don’t think Civil Law is applicable to them.

In reality the anti-LGBT GOP, like Jindal were the ones who are really anti-freedom. Jindal’s efforts are intentional efforts to paint equality seekers as the enemy of the people- it is an effort to paint gays as the enemy who are taking something away from everyone else.
The LGBTQ Community ought to be celebrating the Federal Justices decision because the right to cohabitation does apply to those within our community who seek to form non-traditional relationships, and this right to privacy is connected to our own struggle and our history. The strides we have made are not ours alone but belong to all, since Justice is for all.
