Pennsylvania To Get Gay Marriage Right After Alabama!

Bills like this are going to be showing up all over the place in a concerted and strategized way, supported by big money and groups like the National Organization for Marriage (NOM). Because of the recent wins for Marriage Equality on all fronts, they are stepping up there efforts to get anti-gay legislation on the books in as many states as they can, and get that legislation as deep into the constitution as they can get it.

As it is, it does appear like there is no one to speak for the people of California who voted to accept Prop 8. Don’t get me wrong- I don’t believe people should ever have the right to vote on the rights of others, but in California they do have that right, and that is why I think the judges will probably grant one of them as having standing.

Dallas Gay Couple Wed Over Skype

I noticed this last week, and then failed to actually post. So a Dallas couple had a wedding where the presiding minister was actually in DC and was attending the Dallas ceremony via Skype. No matter how passionate you are about Marriage Equality, it is in your best interest to understand the nuances of Walker’s decision, and what the next steps may mean. Marriage Equality: Are We Getting Tunnel Vision?

The other option is for everyone to accept that there are two parts to marriage. There is the legal part, and a ritual/religious part. Gays and Lesbians are seeking equality in terms of the first- the legal or civil marriage. It’s not that some same-sex couples don’t want the whole church wedding, because some do, but that we aren’t demanding that every church honor same-sex weddings. So any of those churches who do celebrate same-sex marriage- that’s great, and for those that don’t, no big deal.
