Perhaps the single most important work of activists and advocates for Full Equality is to counter the lies and misinformation with truth about what real gay, lesbian, bisexual, and trans persons are like. The more we are out and proud- the more people see us and our lives as they are, the harder it will be for the general public to see us as different.
I received an email today from my Senator, Pat Toomey, which contains an outright lie. Misinformation- the kind far-right social issue activists use to distort reality. I recognize your concern with potential reductions to federal funding for organizations such as Planned Parenthood. Today, Equality PA, a state-wide LGBT Rights organization issued their candidate endorsements. This is the first time this organization has undertaken an endeavor like this.
Segal’s piece should be “required reading” to help dispel the myth that this President hasn’t been tremendous on our issues. Any person who says otherwise, really doesn’t know what they are talking about. Will the GLBT community hear the truth in Segal’s words?

And the differences between Gender, SEx, Sexual Orientation, and Gender Roles remain as undifferentiated as before.

he anti-gay groups would have you believe that loving same-sex couples, many who have been together for many years are trying to destroy “the Traditional Family.” But in reality, love makes a family, not the gender of the parents. This didn’t happen because these people are straight, but those who truly care about preserving “The Family” as a social unit, need to turn their attention to those things that truly destroy families, and that wouldn’t be same-sex marriage.
