Changing Thoughts on Transgender.

Changing Thoughts on Transgender.

What I guess I can’t buy into is that replacing one binary (male/female) with a different binary (trans/cis) accomplishes anything. It just replaces one social construct with another equally limiting and patriarchal construct.

What racism looks like in 2014.

What racism looks like in 2014.

Racism, homophobia, misogyny, and a host of other examples where a group treats another group as if they are less than are all aspects of the same sense of privilege. When violence, threats and intimidation get connected, it is bullying an aggression, and we must all speak up and stop this type of aggressions.

Phyllis Schlafly and the new American racism.

Phyllis Schlafly and the new American racism.

Schlafly is on record claiming Hispanics are not like the GOP, because of illegitimate pregnancies and an inability to understand the Bill of Rights. She divides people into groups: the GOP and Hispanics and then demarcates how that are different but from a single vantage point, a place of white privilege. She doesn’t examine sexual behavior in both groups but begins with the assumption that the othered group is different and less than.

Gay and gaydar are both terms that exclude and carry connotations that aren’t really very helpful today, or in thinking about changes to the heteronormativity of the status quo.

Should the LGBTQ Community Judge Polygamists?

Should the LGBTQ Community Judge Polygamists?

The LGBTQ Community ought to be celebrating the Federal Justices decision because the right to cohabitation does apply to those within our community who seek to form non-traditional relationships, and this right to privacy is connected to our own struggle and our history. The strides we have made are not ours alone but belong to all, since Justice is for all.

Commentary for World AIDS Day: Why are HIV infection rates increasing?

Here are six topics for dialogue regarding Gay sex, HIV, and AIDS which I feel are the reasons we see no lasting success at curbing HIV infection rates. A Gay Man Watches Thurgood at Pittsburgh Public Theater

A Gay Man Watches Thurgood at Pittsburgh Public Theater

The show provides an inviting glimpse into not only the life of this one man, but into the history of our country and all of Americans as a people and as a country. I urge everyone to see this wonderful play. Sit there, in the audience and feel Thurgood addressing you directly, and allow that interaction to prompt you to consider history, the present and the future.

But in Reed’s use of scripture is a darker motivation, the destruction of a Constitionally based legal system in the US. Our legal system grows from the Engliush legal system, and connected to the earlier Roman legal system. It isn’t connected at all to a Hebrew-religious set of laws.

Ending The Boy Scout Gay Ban Is More Important Than Gay Marriage.

Ending The Boy Scout Gay Ban Is More Important Than Gay Marriage.

Othering, requires identifying “same or different,” and this poses real issues for gays and lesbians. We are very much the same and yet we are also very different. I think this has stopped us at times from effectively fighting back against the Homo-haters, because we have fought internally about what being same or different means for our own identity.

The persecution of heterosexual (dogs).

The persecution of heterosexual (dogs).

This isn’t really so unexpected. The straight homo-haters have been trying to play the victim forever. But what is so amazing is how this douche totally misses the point about this dog, who once rescued was named “Elton.” The dog’s sexual orientation never had anything to do with anything. The animal shelter was uncomfortable killing the dog, not because the dog was gay, but because the previous owner was a total asshole, and the dog should not be punished for a person’s idiocy.
