The Waite Court (1888)

The “Right to Marry” is NOT one activist judge’s ruling but the law of the land.

The US Supreme Court has ruled 14 times since 1888 about the fundamental right to marriage, yet groups like the National Organization for Marriage claim that one Obama appointed judge is acting in an activist way. Silly, inaccurate and hateful!

Christian broadcast company tries to cash in on Phil Robertson.

Christian broadcast company tries to cash in on Phil Robertson.

Max Gordon offers an interesting take on the subject. As a black, gay man, his perspective Robertson is worth reading, although it think he has a bunch of it wrong. The audacity of Christians to believe they are above the law speaks volumes and demonstrates the real meaning of privilege. For me, Religion itself isn’t the enemy, but some clueless practitioners who honestly don’t think Civil Law is applicable to them.

The LGBTQ Outrage at Phil Robertson is a Harm to the LGBTQ Movement

Before I begin, let me say, I would put money down on it: I’ll catch crap for this post from some members of the LGBTQ community. I hope that you will read the whole post before having some knee-jerk reaction to the title. [He takes a deep breath and begins to write…] The Far Right is having a heyday with the fiasco surrounding the Duck Dynasty patriarch, Phil Richardson, and they are really winning points[Read More…]

Bobby Jindal Doesn’t Understand the First Amendment.

Bobby Jindal Doesn’t Understand the First Amendment.

In reality the anti-LGBT GOP, like Jindal were the ones who are really anti-freedom. Jindal’s efforts are intentional efforts to paint equality seekers as the enemy of the people- it is an effort to paint gays as the enemy who are taking something away from everyone else.

Should the LGBTQ Community Judge Polygamists?

Should the LGBTQ Community Judge Polygamists?

The LGBTQ Community ought to be celebrating the Federal Justices decision because the right to cohabitation does apply to those within our community who seek to form non-traditional relationships, and this right to privacy is connected to our own struggle and our history. The strides we have made are not ours alone but belong to all, since Justice is for all.

Tom Daley and the Future of Coming Out

Tom Daley and the Future of Coming Out

A big topic in LGBTQ News this past week has been the announcement and subsequent effects of Tom Daley’s Youtube video where he tells everyone he is involved with a guy in a romantic relationship. Many folks have already written plenty about this covering the botched reporting by both the LGBTQ press as well as the mainstream press; the intergenerational aspect of Daley’s relationship with Dustin Lance Black who is 20 years older than Daley;[Read More…]

Polygamy, Same-Sex Marriage, and the fear of slippery slopes.

Polygamy, Same-Sex Marriage, and the fear of slippery slopes.

This judge’s ruling doesn’t allow polygamy and there is no truth to the myth that marriage equality will lead to polygamy. A tradition of polygamy is more connected to a past-era notion of a patriarchal domination where a woman becomes the property of a husband and he can have as many properties as he chooses.

Heterosexual Normativity and Privilege: Another attack on Macklemore.

Heterosexual Normativity and Privilege: Another attack on Macklemore.

Commentary regarding a post by Pascoe and Bridges regarding Macklemore, The Warwick Rowing Team, masculinity and the demonstration of sexuality as a way to confront homophobia. I both agree with some of their points, and offer critique of other ideas they offer. Macklemore, Bronies, Warwick Rowers, and Chris Kluwe among others, in my opinion are negotiating new boundaries defining masculinity and sexual expression, and with any negotiation, there is an element of experimentation and exploration involved.
