Thoughts on Podcamp 8

As I usually do, here is a post summarizing my thoughts about yesterday’s Pittsburgh Podcamp 8 (pcpgh8). I’ll comment on the sessions I attended, as well as Podcamp overall. I’ve attended every Podcamp since 2008 except last year, when I was sick and chose to stay home, and like every Podcamp, I left having learned much. These types of gatherings are so useful and crucial to support a thriving Social Media community like we have here[Read More…]

A Gay Man Sees Our Town

A Gay Man Sees Our Town

My all-time favorite moment of the show is in the second act where, George announces that he is making up his mind, right then and there to not go away to agricultural college. But this is a show where the dialogue and the story telling are meant to take center stage, so there are many wonderful moments.

To be honest, my first thought was to be highly critical.  Equal marriage rights is so completely not about fairy tales, but about real people and real lives. The whole institution of Marriage can seem pretty screwed up and partly because many hold this fairy tale image of what Marriage is and should be. And[Read More…]

Bisexuality and the LGBTQ Community

Bisexuality and the LGBTQ Community

Let’s stop feeding into the false truths of those who seek to oppress us and reframe the dialogue around sexual orientation. Let’s begin to work against heteronormative privilege, rather than for Gay Rights where we exclude those who don’t identify as gay.

Why do Teabaggers hate the Affordable Care Act?

Also published today, are reports that the ACA will cost less than previously anticipated. And the battle for the GOP continues… with the American People the real winners in the end.

The value in talking over coffee.

The value in talking over coffee.

If you want to do something to improve the LGBTQ community, go have coffee with some one from a different group or organization. Spend an hour listening and sharing honestly. No talking about or at each other. The whole community thanks you in advance.

PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 17 – State Reps. Brian Sims, D-Phila., and Gerald Mullery, D-Luzerne, plan to introduce a bipartisan bill to protect Pennsylvania children by banning mental health providers from engaging in anti-gay “conversion therapy” for minors. State Sen. Anthony H. Williams, D-Phila./Delaware, recently introduced a similar bill (S.B. 872). “Just last month, New Jersey’s Republican governor and Democratic legislature worked together to ban this practice. The governor there cited ‘a litany of potential ill effects[Read More…]

I told my Father.

I told my Father.

After we left the restaurant, and I was climbing into my car, he said something about how everything was looking up for me. The new car, work, my health.. and he said, “and your getting married!” with a big happy smile on his face.

The Problem With Pennsylvania (is people like Victoria)

The Problem With Pennsylvania (is people like Victoria)

State-wide progress requires state-wide work, state-wide coalition building, state-wide communication and state-wide cooperation. All Pennsylvanians who care about Fairness and Equality must be willing to listen to one another, understand the various factors at work in different parts of the state and together seek solutions.
