I want to weigh in on a recent Davey Wavey controversy. We have to stop beating up on younger gays just because they don’t get it 100% right. They are a part of the future and they deserve our support rather than our scorn.
I see name calling as a tool of patriarchy and white supremacy. It is an effort to enforce a power-over way of being. Even if it makes us feel good to call others names, we are simply buying into and reinforcing the same power dynamics and that doesn’t change the world.
Yesterday, I participated in the 18th annual Summit Against Racism, and wow- was it amazing. Every year, I always leave at least one session at the summit, thoroughly blown away, but this year that just seemed to be compounded. The catch phrase “religious freedoms” just became synonymous with new rights created by Mike Pense, governor of Indiana in his state of the state speech this week.
Now, six months post Pride 2015, everything remains pretty much as it was before. Delta continues to operate and is no more open to the community than it was before. Maybe even less so.
