By interacting, I don’t mean a single interaction, but rather if the legislator knows you, they are more likely to really hear you, and your opinion can affect their thinking and action.
Pennsylvania has joined the growing list of states where same-sex marriage is front and center at the moment. Unlike Iowa, or Washington DC, it is not because PA may soon allow marriage equality- just the opposite. A Pennsylvania Senator has introduced a joint resolution, SB 707, which would amend the PA constitution to describe marriage as between one man and one woman, thus writing discrimination against same-sex couples into the PA constitution. No matter what they believe is their reason, anyone who wants Pennsylvania to focus on the important things like health care, jobs, education, and public safety, must come out and ask the Senate to say no to this piece of legislation.
Even if, the people agree with the positions of their elected officials, they still don’t trust them. This is enormously important!
This is their line in the sand, so they aren’t giving in quietly or easily. And no matter how much progress we have made, it could turn the other way without too much work on their part.
But underneath those “big frame” concepts, was a story of a real boy and a real father, and a real relationship between them. For Brendan now, it won’t matter if gays can marry. But it mattered to Brendan, every day of his life that his father loved him.
