GetEqual just doesn’t get it, if you ask me. They need to get a clue on their way to Getting Equal. It isn’t that they are wrong in theory. Yes, everyone deserves to be protected from discrimination. But few with any experience in reality, would expect creating public policy by one Supreme Court decision to the plausible step to that end.

RuPaul’s Drag Race has brought new attention to Drag, which has grown and evolved in exciting ways. At one time, it may have been the form of gay entertainment, where today there are lesbian, gay, bi, trans and gender nonconforming entertainers in all sorts of mediums and venues. Still Drag is poignant and meaningful in the ways it uses Gender, to express power, roles, and and ideas.

The “fundamental principle” that Civil Rights leaders fought for is quite simple. No one group of individuals has a right to decide to discriminate against another identifiable group simply because they don’t approve or like that other group.
For me, that is the dividing line between Christians and Christianists. The former walk their own walk while the latter attempt to control others.
But in Reed’s use of scripture is a darker motivation, the destruction of a Constitionally based legal system in the US. Our legal system grows from the Engliush legal system, and connected to the earlier Roman legal system. It isn’t connected at all to a Hebrew-religious set of laws.
Othering, requires identifying “same or different,” and this poses real issues for gays and lesbians. We are very much the same and yet we are also very different. I think this has stopped us at times from effectively fighting back against the Homo-haters, because we have fought internally about what being same or different means for our own identity.
