How Rough Will the Battle Be For LGBT Rights?

How Rough Will the Battle Be For LGBT Rights?

The linked blog post on the Huffington post was actually about Health Care Reform, and is a good read on that subject, but a photo on the post really captured my attention, and prompted me to step back and think about the bigger picture.

Misgendering Caitlyn Jenner

What’s ironic I think is that Babine and Western Journalism, the platform she blogs at, are perfect examples of why people chide Jenner for remaining a Republican.

Today, there is a special meeting/presentation by Equality PA to host Obama appointee, Chai Feldblum.  Here are the details: Friends: Over the past several months, Equality PA has had the pleasure and honor of developing a great working relationship with The White House. In that time, we’ve worked to bring Obama Administration appointees and thought-leaders into close contact with numerous members and allies of the state’s LGBT Community for conversation and learning. When Journalists Perpetuate Bull Shit

Every time a journalist uses this type of language it discredits any attempt to portray the bill as being truly about non-discrimination. “Bathroom Bill” kills real dialogue and understanding every time. Even if the journalist feels it is important to share both the truth as well as the opposition’s position, it can be done without this language.

Bathrooms and Bullets, the Conservative’s Confusion

In the wake of the horrific Tucson massacre, a few themes have emerged in the public discourse. Some of these seem interesting, most all predictable, but at the same time, a number of themes don’t really make sense, and point out how the conservative movement, wants to have it both ways. This isn’t unusual. One of the things that often drives progressives crazy, is the incongruity and dissonance of various conservative positions and talking points.[Read More…]

Is There LGBT Equality in Massachusetts?

Is There LGBT Equality in Massachusetts?

The linked blog post by Tom Lang below is a wonderful read, and talks about something I’ve written about from a general perspective before. Same-sex marriage equality is critically important to some parts of the LGBT community, but it, in and of itself does not produce equality. Even after 6 years of marriage equality there, the whole of the LGBT community remains lacking some very basic protections because a part of that whole has no[Read More…]

Is “Hypocrite” and “Anti-Gay Crusader” mean the same thing?

There is a slogan you hear in 12 step groups- “you are only as sick as your secrets.” Come out and quit living a double life of lies. Your secrets are killing us, as well as you.

TransOhio Symposium shatters new ground for Midwest transpeople

Really wonderful read to understand issues surrounding transgender people. Respecting and calling for the inclusion of transfolk in any GLBTQ rights actions is something I have cared about for many years. Probably 15  or more years ago, a FTM transman emailed me after reading something I had written in a Usenet newsgroup. I hadn’t really said much, but still he thanked me because few people (at least in that newsgroup) would speak up for transfolk.[Read More…]

The first Pride was a a riot? Really?

The first Pride was a a riot? Really?

It isn’t hard to find memes and T-shirt’s, that announce Pride month by claiming that “the first Pride march was a riot.” This is true in some regards and misleading in others. We celebrate Pride in June to commemorate the Stonewall riots in New York City. A police raid on the Stonewall Inn in the early morning hours of June 28th, 1969 set off riots over multiple nights and is considered today to be the[Read More…]
