Why are we allowing our tax dollars to defend (unsuccessfully) unconstitutional discrimination?

The court ruled against Speaker of the House John Boehner’s hand-picked lawyer for theBLAG, Paul Clement, whom U.S. taxpayers are paying up to $1.5 million to defend DOMA. I encourage you to think abouyt this as a form of LGBTQ activism. Imagine, this is most likely the closest you will ever be to a large number of members of the PPD. You will have much opportunity to share your perspectives as lesbian, gay, bi, trans, queer, or allied supporters, and these are perspectives that these same members of the force probably don’t hear very often. A date has now been set for the PA court challenge to th PA VoterID Bill. Opponents of the law claim it is designs to suppress voters who are most generally democrat voters while proponents believe the law will protect against illegal alien voters. Limiting Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s Legacy will hurt everyone.

This hurts everyone however given how crucial his messages are for anyone who looks for progress on Civil Justice issues. Additionally, this action also imesearuably harms the Black community further by making more invisible another great leader and Civil Rights advocate, Bayard Rustin. DOJ Accepts EEOC Ruling:Trans Bias Covered By Title VII

One point I want to make really clear- the importance of this coming from the EEOC and being accepted by the DOJ. So often activists and advocates get caught up in how politicians will make change and legislation makes change, and both of those things may be true. But that said, sometimes real and meaningful change occurs because hard working people use existing laws and existing standards and policies and make things as they ought to be.It isn’t the glam world of activism or marches or rallies or protests. It is mundane gritty, day to day slogging, using existing systems, policies, etc.

Symbolism Doesn’t Make Anything Better.

Simply saying it gets better doesn’t make it so. This isn’t Bewitched where Samantha wriggles her nose and things change. The value of It Gets Better is to place a sense of hope and focus that down the road, if you get yourself that far, it will be better. And in my personal opinions, Huang’s ideas are simplistic and do little to grasp the reality of the needed hope that will help save these kids.
