Drawing the line between same-sex marriage and the other LGBTQ rights issues.

The linked article below is all about a flyer from 2002 Pride that now, the Romney camp is disavowing, but the reality is that Romney’s support for LGBTQ is not that clear. Perhaps like many politicians, he was just out for the votes and trying to portray himself as supportive. In the worst case scenario though this current disavowing is just the failure of a man to show integrity s he fears that many Republican[Read More…]

Gay community apologizes to Amy Koch for ruining her marriage – Minneapolis News – The Blotter

The entire apology is a good read, and here is just the start of it. “On behalf of all gays and lesbians living in Minnesota, I would like to wholeheartedly apologize for our community’s successful efforts to threaten your traditional marriage,” reads the letter from John Medeiros. “We apologize that our selfish requests to marry those we love has cheapened and degraded traditional marriage so much that we caused you to stray from your own[Read More…]

LGBT Spain, and the lesson for the US 2012 elections.

All we have to do is look at the GOP’s agenda in the House. Since they regained power, everything they have done has been to attack individual rights. They ran on the economy, but their actions are all about social change and a return to an ultra-conservative control over personal freedoms.

In the bigger picture, the GOP’s efforts have been about destroying Obama so that a Republican would win, and what might it mean if the GOP had total power, or at least a far greater level of control? Look at Spain.

Prop 8 and the voice of the people.

it is a perspective of Equality that has moved out into a public conversation more than any other issue. And so, no matter what happens with Marriage Equality, it will either push full equality farther along or hinder our progress on all fronts., so it impacts every single member of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer communities.

Prop 8 path forward to be known tomorrow.

But it also seems rational, that since this was a citizen’s initiated effort, that the court will allow citizens to appeal the case to the next level of the court. It is anticipated that at that level, it will win, but if it is allowed to continue, there will be no stopping the case and it will go all the way to the Supreme Court. In this scenario, more people may potentially win, as it could influence the right to marry nationally, but given how conservative the Supreme Court currently is, one can easily imagine the case being decided against Marriage Equality. Bigger potential win, but bigger risk.

White House responds to N.C. marriage amendment

This president has done more for the LGBTQ community than any previous president, but that really isn’t enough. No president more than Barrack Obama should understand the underlying Civil Rights that are at stake in the battle over Marriage Equality. This is why we expect him to, in the words of Dan Savage, evolve already.

Teacher suspended for views on gay marriage: Not Really!

Personal religious views are just that- personal. If same-sex marriage is opposed to a person’t religious views then, they shouldn’t have one. Salvation, which is the ultimate reason why Christians have faith and follow some doctrine, is an individual thing. What two men do in New York doesn’t harm this teacher’s salvation. He’ll still end up in heaven no matter what others are or are not doing. These personal religious views are what are protected in the First Amendment.

Perry’s 10th Amendment Problem

I’ve heard the reports that most GOP pundits get wet thinking that Rick Perry will enter the presidential race for 2012. On one level, I get it. Who is a bigger symbol of smaller and less powerful federal government than the guy who talked of succession and states rights. Perry loves him some of that 10th amendment! But really, who is being kidded by this talk? Conservatives don’t want more power in the states when[Read More…]
