What racism looks like in 2014.

What racism looks like in 2014.

Racism, homophobia, misogyny, and a host of other examples where a group treats another group as if they are less than are all aspects of the same sense of privilege. When violence, threats and intimidation get connected, it is bullying an aggression, and we must all speak up and stop this type of aggressions.

Trans student first to play on HS softball team.

LGBTQ youth face some of the greatest difficulties and too often we only hear about trans youth- or adults for that matter- who are victims. Thanks to GLAAD for pointing out this amazing young person.

Facebook gives voice to trans persons and spearheads awareness.

Facebook is the third largest “country on the planet. How much good can come when a country of over one billion residents begin to become aware of Gender Identity in new and meaningful ways?

When cis persons write about trans.

When cis persons write about trans.

But bloggers and writers have no excuses. We have a responsibility to make sure that what we write is accurate and helps rather than harm. We don’t get to plead for more time.

Homophobia in the locker room is irrational.

Homophobia in the locker room is irrational.

The other story sitting just out of sight, is that there are already gay and bi players in the NFL. Could be one or it could be dozens, but they are there. What will they do because of Sam’s announcement as well as with the whatever the NFL puts forward like the about garbage regarding homophobia, locker rooms and chemical balance? Will they continue to live and play football in the closet and acquiesce to the homophobia? Time will tell.

Do Olson and Boies belong in other same-sex marriage battles?

Do Olson and Boies belong in other same-sex marriage battles?

The arguments against same-sex marriage are feeble and unjustifiable. A talented legal team is very needed, but it would be a mistake to believe that only these two can make a US Supreme Court win possible.

Phyllis Schlafly and the new American racism.

Phyllis Schlafly and the new American racism.

Schlafly is on record claiming Hispanics are not like the GOP, because of illegitimate pregnancies and an inability to understand the Bill of Rights. She divides people into groups: the GOP and Hispanics and then demarcates how that are different but from a single vantage point, a place of white privilege. She doesn’t examine sexual behavior in both groups but begins with the assumption that the othered group is different and less than.

A Gay Man Sees Company!

A Gay Man Sees Company!

The real power of this show for me grows from the fine line it walks between being all that and nothing at the very same time. It isn’t a simple boy meets girl, everyone sings and is happy type of show. It is both fulfilling and leaves you in angst and longing at the same time. In fact, watching, you wonder, if anyone is really happy, till y0u realize everything about how we are as isolated individuals as well as seeking companionship is a search for something.

The Grammy’s got married! (Part 2)

The Grammy’s got married! (Part 2)

The error with marriage as identity politics is that we, the gay and lesbian community don’t own it. It isn’t our fight to fight nor we, the only who benefit. It is the continuation of a long line of struggles for real equality- a part of a continuum rather than an isolated effort.
