The DownFall of LGBT Rights (or the Democratic Party) in Pennsylvania

Consider if Virginia offers any glimpse as to what will happen in PA. In VA, not only do LGBT’s have fewer rights, but the Republicans in power went after the state schools to stop them from offering domestic partnership benefits. Is it too far of a stretch to think that if Corbett is elected, and Republicans take control of the House, we will likely see actions across the state to squelch whatever progress we have been making towards equality?

Counter Protesting NOM

Countering NOM may make Marriage Equality supporters feel good, and let them blow off a bit of righteous steam, they also totally play into meeting NOM’s needs and help them garner publicity where they might not otherwise get any. Why are we helping them be successful, even if it makes us feel good?

Why Won’t Tom Corbett Follow PA Law?

So many conservative bloggers are citing Corbett’s work as the Attorney General, as proof that he will alter the future of the state by being tough on law breakers, but if he himself can’t comply with PA’s open records law, does he really offer anything? When politicians act above the law, in any way, they should step down and make way for real leaders.

At least Madonna and Young acknowledge that the two candidates have dramatically opposing ideas, platforms and philosophies. Too bad they spend their time talking about BS instead of the real issues facing the state.

We won’t get the opportunity to hold Dan Onorato accountable for moving LGBT rights forward in the state, if we just keep painting him as the problem. It isn’t a matter of “who is a stalwart for LGBT rights,” but rather, who is not, and the not is Tom Corbett.

A PA Constitutional Convention Scares Me

But what about a constitutional convention? The only way that all of the voters get the same level of voice is if the convention included 100% of the voters. Which would be impossible. So, by the very nature of the convention, some people do not have a voice while others get to make decisions that impact those who have been silenced.

Republican Seeks Special Treatment

Allegheny County councilman, Matt Drozd is looking to treat the Democratic and Republican candidates for governor differently. He has introduced an ordinance to make Dan Onorato step down while running for governor, but doesn’t feel the same should apply to to the Republican challenger.

Dan Onorato never ran as a hero. He ran as a candidate with experience managing a large county government and helping that county do well through very tough times. In fact, I never heard Dan apply any labels to himself except “Democrat,” even those his opposition tried to attach myriad labels such as
