Language for trans persons is not only a challenge to those who strive to maintain heteronormativity and the status quo. Even the medical profession is complicit. Opening up to a greater selection of terms for trans persons is also a challenge to the gay and lesbian community which has for the longest time, wanted to see things in another dichotomy.

LGBTQ youth face some of the greatest difficulties and too often we only hear about trans youth- or adults for that matter- who are victims. Thanks to GLAAD for pointing out this amazing young person.

Facebook is the third largest “country on the planet. How much good can come when a country of over one billion residents begin to become aware of Gender Identity in new and meaningful ways?

But bloggers and writers have no excuses. We have a responsibility to make sure that what we write is accurate and helps rather than harm. We don’t get to plead for more time.

A proposal submitted by councilman Jim Kenney would mandate gender-neutral bathrooms in addition to men’s and women’s restrooms for any newly constructed or renovated city-owned buildings and require transgender health benefits for city employees.
