At some point, we will have a calculation a little more complex than pi perhaps, which helps us describe sexual orientation in the way pi helps us describe a perfect circle. We aren’t there yet. Science isn’t there yet, and the calculation hasn’t yet been worked out, but in time, it will.
Even on days when I’m barely breathing, I think it is an extremely small price to have paid to still be alive! I have lived and am continuing to live such a tremendous and exciting and rewarding journey, and I shudder at how quickly and easily my life almost ended because I wanted it to stop.
If we focus only on race and issues of black and white and never address privilege and power, we will never succeed at ending this type of behavior and will never bring about real mutual respect and celebration of diversity.
