Gagnon’s name surfaced yet again in a Google alert for “Homosexual.” The linked post is the start of a review of something Gagnon wrote which is supposed to be a secular justification against homosexuality. What does the Biblical Scholar have to bring to a secular argument to oppose gay people? And as I read, not only the commentary of Gagnon’s writing, but Gagnon’s text itself, that nagging question returned. Is Robert Gagnon gay?
I rarely have anti-gay type folks post comments on my blog, but I was surprised today to find a comment posted on a story about Target and their supposedly neutral stance on same-sex marriage. So, I’d label the Long Stroke as gay sex, but for Rekers, perhaps it is what keeps you from gay sex? Rekers says he isn’t gay, but do straight men really pay for other men to touch them in erotic ways?
The attack is equating being gay itself as a disease, not with AIDS specifically, and making an insinuation about how gays invade and take over. This positions the conservative/ family values types as the victims and the invasive infection homosexuals as the perpetrators.
We do not need to talk about homosexuality, but rather talk about being gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transexual.
So these rabbis are doing what the religious community leaders have always done. When faced with what were seen as attacks to their status quo, they spoke out in an attempt to control, and keep the community following that status quo.
Steven Anderson has recently been in the news. As a pastor, he prays for Obama to die. The other day, Sirius XM radio host Michelangelo Signorile had him on the air, and the linked blog is about that exchange, and it includes a Youtube video. What I found most intriguing about the exchange was the questioning about murder.
